Ingredients

For the Rolls
  • 1 pound beef lean cut, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup Thai basil or regular basil for milder flavor
  • 12 sheets rice paper wrappers soaked in warm water until pliable
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce low-sodium preferred
  • 1 teaspoon chili fresh or flakes to taste
  • 1 cup vegetables such as carrots and cucumbers
Optional Dipping Sauces
  • 1/2 cup peanut sauce for dipping
  • 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce for dipping

Equipment

  • large skillet or wok
  • shallow dish

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by thinly slicing the beef into strips about 1/4-inch thick. In a mixing bowl, combine the beef with soy sauce and minced garlic, ensuring it's well-coated. Allow the mixture to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until hot, then add a splash of oil. Add the marinated beef to the pan in a single layer and stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  3. Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip a rice paper wrapper into the warm water for 15-20 seconds until soft and pliable. Lift and shake off excess water before laying it flat.
  4. On the center of the rice paper, place a few Thai basil leaves, a portion of cooked beef, and any additional vegetables. Leave space around the edges.
  5. Fold the sides of the rice paper over the filling, then roll the wrapper away from you to secure the ingredients tightly.
  6. Serve the rolls fresh or with favorite dipping sauces. Enjoy the vibrant flavors!
