- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook ziti pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water for about 8 minutes until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion and minced garlic for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
- Add ground beef or sausage to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper; mix until smooth.
- Grease a baking dish with olive oil. Layer half of the cooked ziti, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, half of the mozzarella, and half of the meat sauce. Repeat layers.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes, then remove foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
