Step-by-Step Instructions
- Begin by spatchcocking your turkey. Carefully cut along the backbone and flatten the turkey by pressing down on the breastbone until you hear a crack.
- In a measuring cup, combine orange juice with maple syrup and stir well until blended.
- In a bowl, blend softened butter with minced garlic, fresh thyme, salt, and pepper to create herb butter.
- Loosen the turkey skin and rub some of the herb butter underneath the skin and all over the turkey.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In the roasting pan, place sliced onions and orange halves at the bottom. Lay the turkey on top.
- Bake the turkey at 425°F for 30 minutes to crispen the skin. Brush with glaze and lower oven temperature to 350°F (175°C).
- Continue to roast for an additional hour, basting every 20 minutes with remaining glaze until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- Remove the turkey and rest for 30 minutes before carving to allow juices to redistribute.
