Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Grease and line a 20cm (8-inch) square pan with baking paper.
  3. Combine melted butter, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  4. If desired, add the egg and stir until incorporated.
  5. Press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  6. Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  7. Mix diced apples, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in another bowl.
  8. Combine the reserved crumble mixture with rolled oats.
  9. Spread the apple filling evenly over the baked base and sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  10. Bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  11. Cool the bars in the pan for 10-15 minutes before lifting out and cutting into squares.
