- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease and line a 20cm (8-inch) square pan with baking paper.
- Combine melted butter, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- If desired, add the egg and stir until incorporated.
- Press two-thirds of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
- Mix diced apples, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in another bowl.
- Combine the reserved crumble mixture with rolled oats.
- Spread the apple filling evenly over the baked base and sprinkle the topping over the apples.
- Bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Cool the bars in the pan for 10-15 minutes before lifting out and cutting into squares.
