Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, activate the yeast by mixing it with warm milk, warm water, and granulated sugar. Let it sit until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and cocoa powder. Mix in the yeast mixture, egg, butter, food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
