Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 200°F (93°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites on low speed and add cream of tartar, then increase speed to medium until frothy.
  3. Gradually add white sugar while beating until the mixture is glossy and forms semi-stiff peaks.
  4. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag and pipe ghost shapes on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake the meringues for 2 hours and cool in the oven for an additional 30 minutes.
  6. Prepare the buttercream by mixing butter, confectioner’s sugar, milk, and purple gel food coloring until smooth.
  7. Once the cupcakes are baked and cooled, frost them with the purple buttercream.
  8. Use black decorating frosting to pipe facial features on each meringue and then place a meringue ghost on each cupcake.
