Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Provides richness and moisture; substitute with margarine or a vegan butter alternative if needed.
  • 0.5 cup Granulated Sugar Sweetness and structure; can be partially replaced with brown sugar for added moisture.
  • 0.5 cup Brown Sugar Adds a caramel flavor and moisture; light or dark brown sugar can be used interchangeably.
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract Enhances flavor; use pure extract for the best taste.
  • 1 large Egg Acts as a binder and adds moisture; substitute with a flax egg for a vegan option.
  • 1.5 cups All-Purpose Flour Provides structure; gluten-free flour blends can be used as a substitute.
  • 0.33 cup Black Cocoa Powder Adds color and a mild chocolate flavor reminiscent of Oreos; Dutch-process cocoa is an acceptable alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch Helps keep cookies soft and chewy; omitting won’t significantly affect the structure.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Fine Sea Salt Enhances sweetness and balances flavors; table salt can be used if that's what you have on hand.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Baking Soda Helps cookies rise; ensure they are fresh for the best results.
  • 0.25 teaspoon Baking Powder Helps cookies rise; ensure they are fresh for the best results.
For the Sweet Additives
  • 1 cup White Chocolate Chips Adds sweetness and creaminess; can be replaced with semi-sweet chocolate or omitted for a darker cookie.
  • 1 cup Halloween M&Ms Provides festive color and fun, adding a pop to your Halloween Cookies; seasonal chocolate candies can be substituted.
  • Edible Candy Eyeballs Optional for decoration, offering a fun aesthetic to your cookies.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to beat together 1 cup of unsalted butter with ½ cup each of granulated and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 1 large egg to the mixture and mix until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, ⅓ cup of black cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon of cornstarch, ½ teaspoon of fine sea salt, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and ¼ teaspoon of baking powder.
  5. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until a sticky dough forms.
  6. Gently fold in 1 cup of white chocolate chips and 1 cup of Halloween M&Ms.
  7. Using a large cookie scoop, drop balls of dough onto your prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Press a few extra Halloween M&Ms and edible candy eyeballs on top of each dough ball.
  9. Bake your cookies for about 12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers look slightly underbaked.
  10. Let the cookies cool on the sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
