Ingredients

For the Cabbage
  • 1 medium Green Cabbage Perfect for maintaining shape while becoming exquisitely tender.
  • 0.5 tablespoon Olive Oil Ideal for searing; substitute with your favorite cooking oil if needed.
For the Garlic Butter Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Adds a rich flavor; feel free to use salted butter if you prefer.
  • 1 medium Shallot Brings a delicate sweetness; yellow onion is a great substitute.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Fresh is best for that aromatic punch; garlic powder works in a pinch.
  • 1 cup Low-Sodium Chicken Broth Builds the base of the sauce; use vegetable broth for a vegetarian alternative.
  • 0.5 cup Heavy Cream Creates the creamy texture; half-and-half makes for a lighter sauce.
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan Cheese Enhances flavor with a cheesy richness; dairy-free cheese options are available.
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Oil Introduces a subtle heat; red pepper flakes can provide the same kick without oil.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano Infuses herbal notes; fresh oregano brightens the flavor even more.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Essential for enhancing overall taste; adjust based on preference.
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper Offers a touch of spice; feel free to experiment with other pepper types.
For Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped Parsley Adds a fresh pop of color and flavor; optional but highly recommended!

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • Baking Dish

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by cutting the medium green cabbage into 8 wedges, ensuring to slice through the core. Set the wedges aside while preparing for cooking.
  2. In a large skillet, heat ½ tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Place the cabbage wedges cut-side down in the skillet. Sear for 2-3 minutes until golden.
  3. Melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add minced shallot and chopped garlic, sauté for 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the low-sodium chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits. Stir in ½ cup of heavy cream, ½ cup of grated Parmesan, 1 tablespoon chili oil, and seasonings.
  5. Allow the sauce to bubble gently for 3-4 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer seared cabbage wedges to a baking dish. Pour the sauce over the cabbage and bake for 50-60 minutes.
  7. Once out of the oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley and extra Parmesan cheese for garnish.

Notes

Keep the core of the cabbage intact when cutting wedges for even tenderness. Adjust cooking time as needed for desired texture.
