Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of granulated sugar with 1/2 cup of water, stirring gently. Heat over medium-low for 3–5 minutes until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Remove the pan from heat and add 2 cups of fresh cranberries. Stir gently to coat in syrup and let soak for 5–10 minutes.
  3. Using a slotted spoon, transfer cranberries to a wire rack over a baking sheet and let dry for at least 1 hour.
  4. Mix the remaining 1/2 cup of granulated sugar with optional orange zest. Toss dried cranberries in the sugar mixture until coated.
  5. Return cranberries to the wire rack for an additional hour to allow the sugar to set.
  6. Serve as garnish for desserts, cocktails, or cheese boards. Store in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
