Ingredients

For the Syrup
  • 2 cups Fresh Blackberries Choose ripe, juicy ones for the best results.
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar Can substitute with honey or agave syrup.
  • 1 cup Water Adjust based on personal taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Optional, adds depth to flavor.
For the Lemonade
  • 6-8 lemons Fresh Lemon Juice Yields around 1 cup of juice.
  • 7 cups Cold Water

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • large pitcher
  • fine mesh sieve

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of fresh blackberries, 1 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 cup of water. Heat on medium-high for about 10 minutes, mashing the blackberries with a fork as they soften. Once done, strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve to remove solids and let it cool.
  2. While the blackberry syrup cools, juice about 6-8 fresh lemons to yield around 1 cup of lemon juice. In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice with 7 cups of cold water, stirring well to mix.
  3. Once the blackberry syrup has cooled completely, add it to the lemon-water mixture in the pitcher. Stir everything together well, and taste to check the sweetness.
  4. If you prefer a chilled drink, allow the blackberry lemonade to sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice and pour the lemonade over the top.

Notes

Store any leftover lemonade in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. You can also freeze the blackberry syrup in ice cube trays for easier portioning later.
