Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup Rolled Oats
  • ½ cup All-Purpose Flour use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option
  • ½ cup Cold Butter cut into small pieces
  • ½ cup Chopped Nuts like pecans or walnuts, optional

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1½ cups of all-purpose flour, ½ cup of sugar, and ¾ cup of cold butter. Mix until it resembles coarse crumbs and press into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Slice 3–4 cups of firm apples and toss with ¼ cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and ½ teaspoon of nutmeg. Spread over the shortbread crust.
  4. In another bowl, mix 1 cup of rolled oats, ½ cup of flour, and ½ cup of cold butter. Blend until crumbly; fold in optional nuts. Sprinkle over the apple layer.
  5. Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
  6. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares.
