Ingredients

Steak Marinade
  • 1 pound Sirloin Steak
  • 1/4 cup Mirin Can substitute with white wine vinegar mixed with a pinch of sugar
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Grated or minced
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Oil Can substitute with olive oil
Vegetables
  • 2 medium Carrots Chopped
  • 1 medium Zucchini Chopped
  • 8 ounces Mushrooms Sliced
Fried Rice
  • 4 cups Fried Rice Freshly cooked or leftover

Equipment

  • Stovetop Skillet

Method

Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together mirin, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil until well blended. Place the sirloin steak into the marinade, ensuring it’s fully coated, and cover it. Let the steak marinate for at least 30 minutes at room temperature.
  2. While the steak is marinating, wash and chop the carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. Set the vegetables aside.
  3. After marination, heat a large stovetop skillet over high heat. Place the marinated steak in the skillet and sear for about 3-5 minutes on each side. Remove the steak and let it rest.
  4. In the same skillet, add more sesame oil if needed and sauté the chopped vegetables for about 4-6 minutes until tender yet crisp.
  5. Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet, and add pre-cooked fried rice to the empty side. Mix and stir for 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  6. To serve, layer warm fried rice at the bottom of a bowl, followed by sautéed vegetables and sliced rested steak on top.

Notes

For best results, allow steak to marinate longer, use leftover rice for best texture, and feel free to experiment with vegetable choices.
