Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
Gradually add the flour and salt to the butter mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until smooth.
Roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
Place the cut cookies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
