For the Pretzel Exterior
  • 1 package Refrigerated Pizza Dough Homemade dough is an excellent alternative.
  • 1/4 cup Baking Soda Essential for the pretzel bath.
  • 1 large Egg Consider flaxseed meal mixed with water as a vegan alternative.
  • Coarse to taste Sea Salt For sprinkling on top.

Equipment

  • skillet
  • baking sheet
  • large saucepan

Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Begin by browning 1 lb of ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Add 1/2 cup of diced onions, 1 tsp of garlic powder, 1 tsp of salt, and 1/2 tsp of black pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the beef is fully cooked and the onions are tender. Drain the excess fat, then stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until it melts and forms a cohesive filling.
  2. As your filling cools, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). While waiting, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Once your transfer sheet is prepared, roll out the refrigerated pizza dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into 3x3 inch squares.
  4. Take a square of dough, then place about a tablespoon of the cheesy beef filling in the center. Fold the corners of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges together to seal securely.
  5. In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Once it reaches a rolling boil, carefully stir in 1/4 cup of baking soda.
  6. Lower the assembled bombs, a few at a time, into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Use a slotted spoon to gently submerge them.
  7. Before baking, brush each bomb with a beaten egg. Sprinkle some coarse sea salt on top. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the bombs are puffed up and golden brown.
  8. Once baked, remove the Cheeseburger Pretzel Bombs from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm.
