  • 1 tbsp Maple Syrup Adds sweetness; honey is a good alternative.
  • ¼ cup Red Wine Vinegar Adds acidity; can be substituted with apple cider vinegar.
  • ½ cup Olive Oil Used for emulsifying; avocado oil is a lighter alternative.

Equipment

  • oven
  • Sheet Pan
  • skillet
  • jar with lid
  • Large platter or bowl

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange bacon strips on a sheet pan and cook for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway. Transfer cooked bacon to paper towels to drain.
  2. In a medium skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add walnuts and brown sugar, stirring for 3-4 minutes until fragrant and golden. Transfer candied walnuts to a bowl to cool.
  3. In a jar, combine Dijon mustard, maple syrup, red wine vinegar, olive oil, kosher salt, and black pepper. Shake vigorously until well blended.
  4. On a large platter, create a bed of mixed lettuce greens. Layer with crispy bacon, candied walnuts, sliced red onion, and dried cherries or cranberries. Add sliced apples.
  5. Sprinkle blue cheese over the salad, drizzle with dressing, and gently toss to combine flavors.
  6. Serve immediately to keep apples crisp and greens fresh. Store leftover dressing separately.

Notes

Assemble the salad just before serving for optimal freshness and texture. Monitor walnuts while cooking to prevent burning.
