  • 3 tablespoons Liquid Aminos Tamari can be used as a gluten-free alternative.
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika No substitutions recommended.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh minced garlic can be used; adjust quantity to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Optional to omit.
For Baking
  • 1 block Firm or Extra-Firm Tofu Use either for different textures.

Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • Medium bowl
  • Paper Towel
  • whisk
  • Small saucepan
  • Plastic wrap
  • parchment paper

Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Begin by slicing the firm or extra-firm tofu into ½ inch thick squares. Pat the pieces dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, liquid aminos, water, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
  3. Pour the marinade over the arranged tofu slices, covering them completely. Gently turn the tofu to ensure all sides are evenly coated.
  4. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place marinated tofu on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  6. While the tofu is baking, pour reserved marinade into a saucepan and simmer over medium heat until it thickens.
  7. Remove the tofu from the oven, baste each piece with thickened marinade, return to the oven, and continue baking for an additional hour.
  8. Once cooked, remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve as desired.
