  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano can substitute with Italian seasoning blend

  • 1 teaspoon salt consider using sea salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper fresh cracked is preferred
For the Filling
  • 4 ounces deli-sliced salami can substitute with turkey or chicken
  • 4 ounces deli-sliced ham can substitute with other deli meats
  • 4 ounces deli-sliced pepperoni omit for lighter snack
  • 4 ounces deli-sliced mozzarella cheese part-skim for less fat
  • 4 ounces deli-sliced provolone cheese can use cheddar for different taste
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese can substitute with Pecorino Romano

  • 1 cup roasted red peppers fresh bell peppers can work if roasted
  • 0.5 cup sliced black olives omit if not preferred
  • 0.5 cup banana peppers jalapeños can be used for more heat

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the Italian sub rolls in half lengthwise and arrange them cut side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. In a small bowl, melt unsalted butter and stir in garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and dried basil. Add red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Brush the butter mixture over the cut sides of each roll.
  5. Layer the salami, ham, and pepperoni evenly on the bottom half of the rolls, followed by mozzarella and provolone cheese.
  6. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top, followed by roasted red peppers, sliced black olives, banana peppers, and fresh basil leaves.
  7. Place the sandwiches in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes until cheese melts and rolls are crispy.
  8. Remove from the oven, let cool for a minute, then cut into portions.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy with a fresh salad or crispy fries.
