For the Apple Filling
  • 3 medium medium-sized apples Diced evenly (Granny Smith recommended).
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Nutmeg can be substituted.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Or substitute with apple cider vinegar.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Can be replaced with arrowroot or flour.
For the Vanilla Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk Any milk variant or dairy-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Almond extract is a good substitute.

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the chilled butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water, mixing until the dough holds together. Wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
Make the Filling
  1. Dice the apples and mix with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch in a separate bowl. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.
Roll Out the Dough
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll the chilled dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick on a floured surface.
Assemble the Kringle
  1. Transfer rolled dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spoon apple filling down the center, cut slits along the sides, and fold the dough over alternately.
Bake
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to wire rack.
Prepare the Glaze
  1. In a bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
Glaze the Kringle
  1. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled kringle and let set before slicing.
