Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a lasagna pan with butter.
- In a large skillet, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions, sprinkle with salt, and sauté for 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
- In a medium saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over low heat. Whisk in ¼ cup of flour and cook for 2-3 minutes until bubbly. Gradually add 2 cups of milk, whisking constantly for 5-7 minutes until thick.
- Spread a thin layer of béchamel on the bottom of the pan. Layer in noodles, caramelized onions, béchamel, and cheese. Repeat, finishing with cheese on top.
- Optionally, sprinkle croutons over the top layer for extra crunch.
- Bake the lasagna for 35-40 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
