A flavorful and easy recipe for Oven-Baked Tandoori Chicken that is marinated in a spiced yogurt mixture and baked to perfection.

- 2 pounds bone-in chicken pieces (legs and thighs work best)
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons tandoori masala
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice preference)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, vegetable oil, lemon juice, garlic, ginger, tandoori masala, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a marinade.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Arrange the marinated chicken pieces on the prepared baking sheet, skin side up. Reserve any leftover marinade.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) and the skin is crispy. Brush the chicken with the reserved marinade halfway through cooking for extra flavor.
- Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lemon wedges.
Notes
- For a smoky flavor, add a few drops of liquid smoke to the marinade.
- Serve with a side of basmati rice or naan for a complete meal.
