Description
A delicious and hearty Italian Sub Sandwich filled with layers of meats, cheese, and fresh vegetables, perfect for lunch or a quick meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 hoagie rolls (6 inches each)
- 12 ounces sliced salami
- 12 ounces sliced ham
- 12 ounces sliced provolone cheese
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 medium tomato, sliced
- 1/2 cup sliced red onion
- 1/4 cup sliced pepperoncini peppers
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Start by preparing the dressing. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, olive oil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper until well combined. Set aside.
- Slice each hoagie roll lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through.
- Spread a generous amount of the dressing on both sides of the inside of each roll.
- Layer the salami, ham, and provolone cheese evenly on the bottom half of each roll.
- Top the meats and cheese with shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, and pepperoncini peppers.
- Close the sandwich and press down gently to help hold everything together.
- If desired, wrap each sandwich in parchment paper or foil and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Slice the sandwiches in half and serve immediately, or keep them wrapped until ready to serve.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce to the sandwich.
- Substitute turkey or roast beef for a different flavor profile, or use a variety of cheeses like mozzarella or cheddar for a unique twist.
