Description

A delicious and hearty Italian Sub Sandwich filled with layers of meats, cheese, and fresh vegetables, perfect for lunch or a quick meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 hoagie rolls (6 inches each)
  • 12 ounces sliced salami
  • 12 ounces sliced ham
  • 12 ounces sliced provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 cup sliced red onion
  • 1/4 cup sliced pepperoncini peppers
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing the dressing. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, olive oil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Slice each hoagie roll lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through.
  3. Spread a generous amount of the dressing on both sides of the inside of each roll.
  4. Layer the salami, ham, and provolone cheese evenly on the bottom half of each roll.
  5. Top the meats and cheese with shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, and pepperoncini peppers.
  6. Close the sandwich and press down gently to help hold everything together.
  7. If desired, wrap each sandwich in parchment paper or foil and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  8. Slice the sandwiches in half and serve immediately, or keep them wrapped until ready to serve.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce to the sandwich.
  • Substitute turkey or roast beef for a different flavor profile, or use a variety of cheeses like mozzarella or cheddar for a unique twist.
