Description

A rich and indulgent hot chocolate fudge cake that is sure to impress anyone who tries it.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • For the fudge sauce:
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well blended.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
  6. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the fudge sauce. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract. Stir continuously until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  7. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Pour half of the fudge sauce over the first layer, then top with the second layer. Pour the remaining fudge sauce over the top of the cake.
  8. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 hours to let the fudge sauce set slightly.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, try adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter.
  • You can substitute the semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark chocolate chips for a more intense chocolate experience.
